The Sports Time Traveler is excited to announce my new book, THE 1955 BROOKLYN DODGERS - MY DAD’s TEAM is now available on Amazon and ETSY.
The book enables the reader to follow the 1955 season of the Brooklyn Dodgers as if you were back in time following the team.
To develop the book, I spent all of 2025 reading the newspapers from 1955 each day, precisely 70 years ago. When I found stories that were absolutely fascinating, I wrote about them. This book compiles all those stories in chronological order from the beginning of the season in April through the end of the World Series.
I had the incredible opportunity during this project to correspond with Peter Bavasi, son of 1955 Dodgers’ General Manager, Buzzie Bavasi, and Peter O’Malley, the former Dodgers president and son of Walter O’Malley, the Dodgers president in 1955 (and also the man responsible for moving the team to L.A. after the 1957 season).
I’m most excited about this book because I wrote it as a tribute to my 91-year-old dad. And that makes today a very special day. My dad was a huge Brooklyn Dodgers fan, and like all Brooklyn fans at the time, he suffered through the heartbreaking losses in the World Series to the Yankees in 1941, 1947, 1949, 1952, and 1953. And he also experienced the ultimate gut-wrenching blow in 1951, when the Dodgers were 2 outs away from another trip to the Fall Classic to face the Bronx Bombers. That’s the moment Bobby Thomson hit “the shot heard round the world,” which sent the New York Giants to the World Series after the Dodgers had been 13.5 games up in mid-August.
I wrote this book expressly so my dad could experience the 1955 season of the Brooklyn Dodgers. It was a great season. But more importantly, it was a season my dad didn’t get to experience because he was away at college in Philadelphia, and back then, following the Dodgers wasn’t so easy if you didn’t live in the New York area. My dad never got to follow the Dodgers daily in 1955. This book will take him back to the great moments he missed.
Reading this book will enable you to experience the incredible 1955 season of the Brooklyn Dodgers, which was also the rookie year of Sandy Koufax. And the next to final year for Jackie Robinson.
